Letter from pastor Jordan

Dear friends,

In the Bible, James teaches us a very important lesson. It is a lesson that Jesus practiced, that countless other saints and followers of Jesus practiced, and a lesson that we as South Palm Community Church partners are going to have to practice as well. James said,

“When troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”

James 1:2-4 NLT

On Sunday, August 5 in our morning conversations, I taught on this scripture and we talked about the rut that South Palm has been in for years. Those in attendance heard from me and the elders about the current path that we have been on as a leadership team in regards to this rut. We as elders have come to a decision through much prayer and believe that it is time to close South Palm Community Church.

This has not been an easy decision. We have worked hard to save South Palm by praying together, raising money, moving to a new location, teaching on love and serving others, bringing you closer together as community groups of Christ followers, and sending you out in to your everyday lives each week to reach others with the good news of Jesus. Yet this wasn’t enough to get South Palm out of the rut that we have been in. Therefore, August 19, 2018 will be the last official gathering of South Palm Community Church.

Let me be clear, that none of the elders, staff, donors, or volunteers can do anything from this point forward to revive South Palm. This is the next step that the Lord has shown to us and we would be disobedient to Him if we tried to continue with this church organization. We do not know what the future holds. Our prayer is that the mission South Palm has held dear for many years will continue in the hearts and actions of those who have been impacted by this ministry. Our partners will be asked to join other churches and continue to grow their faith in Jesus Christ by serving and tithing in those churches. We will never forget or abandon the relationships that have been made here at South Palm. We will look at these days as a South Palm Community with fondness and love in our hearts for what God has done in us and through us.

I would ask that you all continue on with your head held high and not defeated. We are not defeated. We are obedient. I hope you will consider this trial as an opportunity for great joy. And as we move on to whatever the Lord leads each one of us to, let’s be open to learn from this trial, because when we learn from our experiences we bless the heart of God with our faithful endurance to his Word.

As your pastor, I would personally like to say thank you for your love and investment in me and my family. We will never forget you and will continue to pray for you all as we take whatever next step the Lord illuminates on our path.

With much love,
